How Does CoolScultping Work?
CoolScultping is an FDA-approved, patented process that cools fat cells down enough so that the water inside them crystallizes. These crystallized fat cells look foreign to our bodies. They are broken down and eliminated as a result of this cold-induced inflammatory process.

CoolSculpting is not a fat buster and it does not replace diet and exercise as the gold standard of weight reduction. It is good for going after trouble areas (think bra bulge, tummy pooch, love handles) that just seem to stick around despite being at or near your ideal body weight. Essentially, if you can grab a handful (or two) of fat, Coolsculpting may be perfect for you.

For the right candidate, studies have shown that patients typically experience a 20 – 25% reduction in the fat layer (measured on ultrasound) resulting in visible changes to their body’s contours after one treatment. Some patients experience much greater reductions. Treatments can be repeated for additional “slimming” and results are seen as early as 3 weeks and can continue to improve over the course of 4-6 months post-treatment as the patient’s body continues to flush the damaged fat cells. The best part? The CoolSculpting procedure, permanently eliminates the treated fat cells. As long as you maintain your weight with your normal diet and exercise, long-term results should remain stable!

What to expect during the procedure: The CoolSculpting procedure typically takes between 30 and 120 minutes. It is non-invasive treatment that uses an applicator cup (we have multiple sizes available) that enables vacuum pressure to draw tissue between cooling panels. Most do not describe the procedure as painful, though they do feel pressure and intense cold. The sensation is very tolerable without anesthesia or numbing and most patients read, work on a laptop, listen to music or just relax during the procedure. Unlike most other methods of fat reduction, CoolSculpting involves no needles, surgery, or downtime.

Aftercare: CoolSculpting is a non-invasive procedure and there is no recovery time. The treated area may look firm or feel stiff immediately after the procedure. This is normal and dissipates within minutes. The treated area may be reddened for approximately 20 minutes after the applicator is removed. The vacuum can cause bruising, tingling or tenderness to the touch.  This typically resolves within a few weeks. You may feel a temporary dulling of sensation or numbness in the treated area. This is normal and will resolve within a few hours up until eight weeks after your procedure. Most importantly, you may resume normal activities immediately following procedure.
