Lines and Wrinkles » BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport

Reverse the signs of aging caused by repetitive muscle movement. BOTOX® relaxes the muscles that create wrinkles, smoothing the skin and virtually eliminating vertical lines between the eyebrows, horizontal lines across the forehead, and laugh lines around the eyes.

BOTOX, BOTOX, BOTOX. The name is ubiquitous, especially in Southern California. You’ve seen the good (you probably didn’t even realize they’d been treated), you’ve seen the bad (I’m sure you’ve seen that “frozen” or “surprised” look), and if you haven’t tried it, chances are you’ve thought about it. BOTOX is a simple, safe and relatively inexpensive cosmetic procedure that has been used by men and women from age 20 to 70.

BOTOX® has been used for over 20 years, is approved in over 75 countries, and is one of the most widely researched medicines. First developed for therapeutic (non-cosmetic) uses, it gained its first FDA approval in 1989. In 2002 BOTOX® Cosmetic gained FDA approval for relaxing the muscles that cause frown lines. Since then, BOTOX injections have overwhelmingly become the most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment in the U.S. More than 2.4 million patients were injected in 2008 alone. And despite the country’s recent economic woes, the number of patients seeking BOTOX injections continues to grow. BOTOX has made its manufacturer, Irvine-based Allergan, a darling of Wall Street.

BOTOX’s active ingredient, botulinum toxin type A, works by temporarily inhibiting the impulse that causes muscle contraction, thereby relaxing the treated muscles and preventing them from forming facial wrinkles and furrows. The most commonly treated areas are the “frown” lines between the brows, horizontal forehead lines, and “crow’s feet” lines around the eyes. BOTOX is the most widely studied drug worldwide, and has an unparalleled safety profile in cosmetic use.

Talia Emery, M.D. (pictured at left) is a highly sought after injector, speaker and trainer for BOTOX. Her expertise is well-known and respected and she has worked extensively with our entire staff to bring this experience and expertise to you, our clients. In our team’s hands, BOTOX treatments consistently produce desired, natural-looking results.

What to expect during the procedure: The best results are achieved when there is a thorough understanding of the client’s individual muscle anatomy. That is why each of our clients receives a thorough consultation and evaluation to assess muscle bulk, strength, and movement. In addition, we speak in depth with each client about their desired outcome. Some clients want a very subtle therapeutic result, some want to be “frozen”. After we thoroughly understand your anatomy and your desired outcome we will discuss the recommended treatment plan and begin the injections.

BOTOX injections involve only minor discomfort (think mosquito bite). Depending on the area(s) injected you can expect 5-20 small injections. The entire procedure takes about 10 minutes and you’ll see results within 1 week. The duration of effect varies based on a number of factors, but 3-4 months is typical. For optimal results we suggest receiving BOTOX treatments on a regular basis.

Aftercare: Immediately after your treatment you can return to your normal activities. We recommend that you do not lie flat back for at least 2 hours post-treatment. Of course, you should call us with any questions or concerns. We typically ask new clients to return in approximately 1 week for a post-treatment assessment.
