Lines and Wrinkles » Thermage

Thermage is a safe, clinically proven way to tighten and contour skin without injections or surgery. A single treatment firms existing collagen and stimulates new collagen growth. Ideally suited for tightening the face and body and reducing the appearance of cellulite.

How does Thermage work?
Thermage works by using heat, delivered with radio frequency, to induce a natural healing process in the collagen fibers (the basic structural units in our subcutaneous tissue). As we age, the bodies’ ability to restore and repair collagen naturally decreases. As a result our collagen fibers get weaker leaving the skin with a less stable foundation. Aesthetically this leaves the skin with a less firm, saggy, or lax appearance. It also leads to sagging in places we don’t want to sag!

Thermage gives us a highly effective tool to “re-charge” our body’s natural healing process. In short, heating fibrous collagen restores and equilibrates collagen’s elasticity and strength which gives the skin a firmer foundation, leading to tighter skin, a restored shape, and a reduction in the appearance of cellulite. The healing process takes place over two to six months which means you’ll continue to see improvement throughout this process.

The photo below shows a patient before Thermage (left) and then post-Thermage at 2, 4, and 6-months. You can see a subtle, gradual improvement throughout the healing process.

Thermage is an excellent choice for a number of skin and body challenges, including: eyelid laxity (droopy eyelids), axillary skin laxity (flappy under arms), crows feet (wrinkles around the eyes), chin and upper neck laxity, and cheek and face tightening. Thermage can bring back lost elasticity in hands, legs and knees. Thermage’s technology is also FDA-approved to shape trouble areas (waist, legs, love-handles). Want to lose a waist size? We get calls letting us know that is exactly what happened! Last, but certainly not least, Thermage’s technology is also FDA-approved for the treatment of cellulite.

Who is the ideal Thermage candidate?

The ideal patient will have mild to moderate skin laxity or volume on the face, eye lids and/or body areas, or crêpey or wrinkled skin and be between 30 and 60 years old. Post-surgery patients (e.g., facelift, blepharoplasty, liposuction, etc.) are also excellent candidates. We also see a number of clients that are post pregnancy or are rewarding themselves after a successful weight loss program. Thermage works on all skin types.

Most importantly, you must have the appropriate expectations. While Thermage does offer some pretty incredible results, it is not a substitute for a healthy lifestyle. During your consultation we’ll be able to give you a good sense of what you can expect. A general rule of thumb is expect Thermage to “set the clock back” three to five years. The real benefit of Thermage is that with one treatment, you trigger an on-going healing process that takes place over two to six months. This means you’ll see continued improvement over this time, eventually stabilizing with the clock set back three to five years!
